Workshop 1: Bending over Backwards
Sunday, October 19th: 12 noon – 1:15 pm
Creating spinal extension is a sensitive and intimidating process about which a huge quantity of misinformation abounds. In this workshop you will learn how to perform a variety of exercises to increase range of motion in the shoulders, hip flexors, and the entire spine. With discussion and practicum, you will learn how to use the breath during back bending exercises, what sensations to expect, and guidelines to determine the safety and effectiveness of your practice. Whether you simply wish to have an increase in spinal arch or wish to become a contortionist, this workshop contains information you will find beneficial. Students may wish to use a block and strap to assist exercises done in this class.
Workshop 2: Mounts and Dismounts
Sunday, October 19th: 1:30 pm – 2:45 pm
Begin and end every one of your combos well! This class covers a variety of ways to get on and off the pole. Learn to ascend the pole with a variety of spins, climbs, handsprings and other mounts, as well as how to return to the floor in unique ways with grace and control. Difficulty level will be tailored to students in attendance.
In his years poling, professional male pole dancer David C Owen has carved a reputation as a respected performer, instructor, competitor and judge in the pole dance industry. His expressive style and unusual flexibility have marked him as a unique figure in this field, as does his precise and challenging, yet gentle teaching style. His students include professional competitors, performers in Cirque du Soleil and other circus companies, as well as suburban housewives and others of average fitness levels. He is dedicated to preserving the artistry of pole dance while delivering stringent and safe instruction in pole technique and flexibility training, and is passionate about sharing the art of pedagogy with other instructors. He earned the silver medal in 2010 and 2011 in the American Pole Fitness Championships, and a bronze medal at International Pole Dance Masters Cup in 2012. He currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona, USA and can be found at Prowess Pole Fitness, and also maintains an active travel schedule giving performances and classes in countless locations.
Workshop 1: Twerk It!

Move over Miley! Let us show you how it’s really done. Wiggle, wobble, wine, drop, pop it on a handstand in this fun class for Twerk enthusiasts. New moves and new ways to shake your jelly on with Vertical Joe’s!
Workshop 2: Poppin’ On Da Pole!

Let’s take our dance skills into the sky as you learn the art of twerkin’ in your pole tricks with our ATL signature aerial poppin’ on da pole moves.
Torwa Jo “FIYA STARTA” – Xpole Athlete, professional dancer & choreographer, pole historian and “twerk” technician. Torwa Joe, aka Fiya Starta, named for her burning desire to turn everyday women into “pole-a-holics” and for her being “fire/hot” on the pole. She has been featured pole dancing on Lil’ Wayne concert tours, Ludacris performances, The Real Housewives of Atlanta and The Braxton’s Family Values. Fiya Starta is the owner of Vertical Joe’s Fitness Studio, Atlanta’s largest facility for fitness for women, and the creative director of The Sexy Circus pole dance production.
Liquid Motion 1 Workshop
Saturday, October 18th: 2:30 pm – 4 pm
You will learn basic floor work and wall work, with a major focus on body awareness. This awareness will help you to expand on what you currently know and what you will continue to learn in the future. There is no pole in this workshop. It is highly recommended that everybody take this workshop, regardless of your experience, as our program works as a progression from the ground up.
Jeni Janover is the founder and owner of Liquid Motion. She has proudly just turned 40 and lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children. An XPERT and ElevatED certified pole instructor, Jeni has an extensive background in performing and visual arts, ranging from Classical ballet to sculpture. She graduated at the top of her class in the school of Fine Arts at Syracuse University. She began her pole dancing career in 2010, and was instantly addicted. Jeni created Liquid Motion because she wanted to develop a traveling workshop series that teaches students the fundamentals of movement through basic dance theory and exploration of natural instincts. Jeni has taught her signature workshops all over the United States, Mexico and Canada. Liquid Motion workshops are a staple at well-known events, such as the annual International Pole Convention, Pole Expo and Great Midwest Pole Dancing Convention. Jeni previously served on the Board of the AERA Dance Foundation and has judged several pole dance competitions throughout the United States. Jeni believes that knowledge and education are the keys to bringing the aerial arts to the forefront of modern culture and is excited to be a part of the ever growing pole dance community.
